Observation 2

website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4rpvb9vjEE&feature=related

I watched one of the "Above the Influence" commercials. In the commercial, a guy is laying in bed when his phone rings. He answers the phone and it's his friend telling him something about his sister, in which the the guy responds that he was so high that he doesn't remember much.. quickly his tone changes and asks if him and his friend are still "cool", indicating that his friend is really upset because apparently the guy was suppose to get his sister home safely and didn't. In this commercial, it shows the effects drugs can have on a person.  The setting he is in helps to show that one becomes lazy and doesn't do much because of drugs.  The guy could not remember much from the night before because he was high, and he let down his friend.  At the end of the commercial, the guy says "you know me, that's not me."  Because of the choices he made, he changed and became a different person than who he usually seems to be.  This commercial is trying to get across that drugs are not the right way to go, whether they may feel good, or are "cool" in someone else's perspective.  The outcomes of them, in the end, are harmful not only to the person themself but to the people around them who depend on them and mean the most to them.  Instead, they should be "above the influence" and make a change and do something with their life.

Thesis: The 'Above the Influence' commercial's purpose to viewers is to inform people of the harms of drugs, and that it not only affects just them but also the people who surround them; The commercial implies that there are no benefits that will come from doing drugs.
