MacBoy Ad
Jordan and I watched the Macboy ad. This ad utilizes the comparison-contrast strategy to encourage people to buy Macbooks instead of Dell computers. First off, the spokesperson is a spin off of Dell's famous "Dude, you're getting a Dell" man, Steve. In this ad, Steve encourages the audience to go Mac by putting Dell down and changing his famous catchphrase to "Dude, I'm getting a Mac." Secondly, he implies that he had troubles with Dell by submitting that the company made him "do awful things," at which point, he is in the elf costume from an old holiday Dell commercial the "real" Steve was in. He also states that after he bought a Mac, all of his "computer quandaries" were solved. Lastly, this ad works because it appeals to the consumers that Mac is trying to attract. It appeals to teens and young adults because of the cartoon itself, and the wry humor behind it (rhyming "Dell" with "hell"). Also, the Apple necklace Steve has on doesn't hurt the message the creators were looking to send out.
