Observation 1

The first video that Ben and I watched was a Kool-Aid commercial from the 1970's. The commercial showed 2 young kids who have been running and around and getting their exercise on a warm summer day. The kids claim that when they get "hot and thirsty"they need a drink from their friend "Kool-Aid man". They summon him to the park and Kool-Aid man bursts in screaming "Oh, Yeah!". We could relate the concept of rhetoric to this commercial because the audience believes that when they are thirsty they should drink Kool-Aid. The actors in the commercial say that the drink is refreshing and it tastes good. The commercial also shows that having a friend like Kool-Aid man is cool, and therefore they are cool. This shows the audience that when they drink Kool-Aid they are also cool.
The second video we watched was a "Bud Light" advertisement. The commercial features Carlos Mencia speaking to a room of men with many different racial backgrounds and ethnicities. He is preaching to the group about how to ask for a Bud Light in many different American places across the U.S. This video displays the idea of rhetoric when it portrays to the audience that all people from whatever race or have any skin color can drink bud light. The ad claims that Bud Light is always the right choice for beer. This always shows rhetoric in the commercial because it shows the people watching it that they should only drink Bud Light because it is the correct choice.
