My research paper is going to be about transcendentalism and its role in modern literature. This is a topic which interests me, and I can write a lot about it. I want to talk about how authors have used rhetoric to show their views on establishments in America and how people are constantly becoming dependent on them.
Tentative Thesis: In exploring modern literature the presence of transcendentalism cannot be ignored, as authors have attempted to show their views on the topic throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries through books, such as Into the Wild and The Awakening, and movies, such as the “Shawshenk Redemption”.
I will then give examples; my two main ones will be the “Shawshenk Redemption” (a film) and Into the Wild. I am certain that as I delve into the topic I will be able to find several more examples, but as I said these will be my main two (such as The Awakening).
The most difficult part of this paper will be following the guidelines of it because I am interested in this topic and will want to go off on my own. However, I will have to follow the guidelines, no matter how crippling they may seem.
This seems like a good idea for a paper. The thesis should tell more about what the paper will be about rather than how transcendentalism cannot be ignored. Instead of using only the movies for sources maybe you could find other sources that have analyzed those same movies so that your opinions can be backed up by other people.
