Observation 4- Bethani

For my rhetoric research project, I want to focus on people that are homelessness worldwide. I want to make other people aware of how these people are living, how they got where they are today. I want to analyze how homeless people can be portrayed to the people around them, what the media classifies them as, how people who do have nice things treat the homeless. I want to explore all aspects of this topic. Mainly, I want to make people aware of how they can help these people, because at some point in everyone's life, they need someone to pick them up off the ground and help them to learn how to live again.
In this research paper, I intend to use the internet to help find real life photographs of people that are truely homeless to get the point across that this is a real problem, even if you dont encounter it everyday. I always want to use some books, maybe written people who have lived homeless or analyze this type of living. I could possibly find magazine articles in specific magazines if I get lucky. I am probably going to use the internet the most.
I think one of the obstacles for me in this project is going to be seeing how bad off these people really are. I have always been the type of person to help people in need so i think this will inspire me to help these people. I think it will be hard to find alot of information on this topic, besides just articles that tell you how to help. That's the only problem.

  1. If you're going to do this topic you should probably focus more on "how they are portrayed in the media" instead of focusing on "what we should do to change the way they are treated". So you should analyze the way they are presented, as scavengers and what not instead and how they are shown negatively and what makes it this way.

Use web sites, journals, photographs to help you explain why homeless people are given such a bad name.
