I am very interested in psychology, so for my topic I would like to focus on depression. More specifically, I would like to find information about how depression is portrayed in the media, as well as how anti-depressants are marketed to try to change the stigma about depression. I will focus on how the public views depression, how it is portrayed on television and in movies, and how it is discussed by figures of power, such as celebrities, news anchors, political figures, etc. Then, I will reflect on rhetorical strategies used to market anti-depressants in order to reverse how people view and feel about depression. I will also look at the history of depression in the media as well as the history of feelings about anti depressants and anti-depressant advertisements, and how these have changed over time.
As far as my sources are concerned I am hoping to use a wide variety of sources in order to have the best overall support for my thesis. I will use many psychological journal articles, magazine articles, film examples (media examples), advertisements themselves, and books to collect my ideas and support my argument.
I am hoping that I will be able to find enough information to come up with a reasonable argument and a decent paper. I am afraid that I will get stuck with not enough information to go off of. I am also concerned that I will not be able to develop a valid argument. However, I am very interested in this topic so I will certainly try very hard to make this work.

I like the topic and I think it will be interesting to see if there is enough information out there to write about. One question I do have is if you will be focusing on many different anti-depressants or if you plan on focusing on just a selected few. I think if you could find a number of different prescriptions that are given out for people who believe they have depression, then you could get information. All of the heavily advertised anti-depressant drugs have all these disclaimers about the risk and rewards of their specific drugs. I think that could be a good way to get more information to write about.
