2. I plan on using short clips from movies of actors smoking, ads using children to help portray certain messages, photographs, and other commercials.
3. I think one of the biggest problems I am going to run into is having too many options, as far as ads and movie clips are concerned. I am going to have to sort through them and find the few main ones that go along with what I am trying to analyze.

Your thesis is too specific for a very broad topic. I think you shouldn't just use the three rhetorical appeals for these commercials because there is so much more that can be included, like the use of analogy or even the kind of illustration the commercial uses. Other resources that you can use are websites whose philosophy is anti-smoking. This will give you a different point of view of what they think about the media. You can also use articles who demand change for smoking advocacy. With your problem, it would be easy if you just pick a few major commercials and base your paper on that.
