Julia Lawson
For my research paper, I will analyze the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty by studying the advertisements and commercials used by Dove. My goal is to understand what Dove’s message is and by what means do they intend to convey their message. Their campaign is very strong and can be greatly effective to a rhetorical audience and I intend to interpret their commercials from a rhetorical standpoint. The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty has the power to change the way young girls and older women view their own personal beauty and their effectual advertising strategies make this possible.
The most frequent sources that I will use for my research paper will be from watching the Dove commercials and looking at their other advertisements. Also, I will use Dove’s website to read their message to their online audience. I will search in health and beauty magazine archives for articles about Dove’s Campaign.
Dove has numerous commercials promoting their campaign and I believe these will not be hard to find. However, an obstacle that I am afraid I will run into is having no second party interpretation of these commercials other than me. Also, I believe it will be difficult to find scholarly articles on this topic; magazine articles may be slightly more available but still difficult to locate.

I think Julia's preliminary thesis is pretty good since we have only dipped our toes into this research paper so far. I am sure that she will perfect her thesis as she begins writing her paper. As for her sources it is understandable that there is not going to be a lot of sources for the Dove Campaign. Julia has thought of a lot of possible sources and might want to look into what others have written on the Dove Campaign. That will also help in have refutable support for the topic.
